Soon after the birth of his son Samuel, he removed to Hardwick, where he subsequently resided at the place marked "Dr. Billings" on the Ware road, and where his eight children were married. His wife Hannah died 5 March 1767, and he married Mrs. Sarah Crosby 26 November 1767. He died between 21 January and 4 May 1778, probably about 83 years of age. His second wife Sarah and all his children except Sarah and Rebecca survived him.

John Billington, born in England, perhaps Lincolnshire, ca. 1580, died at Plymouth, in September 1630, executed for murder.
He married in England by 1604 Elinor ______, born in England, perhaps Lincolnshire, ca. 1580, and died after 2 March 1642/3. Although Bradford's History and Plymouth Colony records often refer to her as "Ellen" or "Helen," when she and her son stated her name in their own deeds of 1638-1643, it is invariably written "Ellinor." She entered into a marriage agreement 28 August 1638, and married (2) between 14 and 21 September 1638 Gregory Armstrong. He died at Plymouth 5 November 1650.
Although Bradford states that the Billington family joined the Mayflower Company from London, there is evidence that they were originally from Lincolnshire. In 1612 Francis Longland, gentl, of Lincolnshire named Francis Billington, son of John Billington, as one of his two heirs in a lease of Crown land.
John Billington and his family received three acres in the 1623 Division of Land at Plymouth and in May 1627 he, his wife and sons John and Francis were named in the Division of Cattle. In 1651 Bradford wrote: "John Billington, after he had been here ten years, was executed for killing a man, and his eldest son died before him, but his second son is alive and married and hath eight children."
